  23. This is kind of a desperation dive.  I have a real honest-to-goodness
  24. "old telebit" T2500 PEP modem that I am presently using as a backup.

  26. I have a linux box & I am using the T2500 to establish a ppp
  27. connection to my ISP.  I cannot get kermit to handle the modem
  28. properly.  The "old-telebit" modem type is broken -- it will not
  29. initialize my T2500, neither in Enhanced Mode nor in Conventional
  30. Mode.  So I have tried both creating a user-defined modem and simply
  31. creating a new init string.

  33. In the case of the user-defined modem, C-Kermit simply will not init
  34. the modem.  It aborts.  I know the init string is good, I constructed
  35. it right out of the manual (yes, I actually have the manuals, too!).
  36. In the case of the new init string, C-Kermit gives me an error
  37. message, saying it cannot properly init EC & DC & it thinks I have an
  38. RPI modem.  Then it dials ... pulse!  I get connected, but now when I
  39. exit kermit to load the pppd, it drops carrier.

  41. The only way I can get anything like normal performance is to set
  42. modem type hayes & just use the vanilla inits &c.  This works, but it
  43. ain't exactly high speed, since I'm getting xon/xoff flow control.

  45. I'm just hoping someone might have some past experience with this
  46. warhorse of a modem & might be able to help me out.

  48. My init string was at&F&K3&S1S0=0E0Q0X4&D2&C1S110=1S96=1S66=1S95=2.
